Sanath Jayasuriya, who was in Toronto just earlier this month for a T20 exhibition match, will return to Canadian shores again to meet with the finalists of the CIMA Mayor’s School Cricket Tournament.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced today that it had upgraded the contracts of wicket-keeper Prasanna Jayawardene and fast bowler Chanaka Welegedara, who both currently only play Test cricket.

The mind games have begun ahead of Pakistan’s tour of Sri Lanka, with Pakistani spinner Saeed Ajmal announcing that he and teammate Abdul Rehman plan on tormenting Sri Lankan batsmen.

Sri Lanka’s Tillakaratne Dilshan, who is currently in India playing in the fifth edition of the IPL, said the revenue earned from the IPL has helped players focus on cricket and not stress over their finances.

SLC secretary Nishantha Ranatunga told journalist that the cricket board was desperate for India’s participation in the Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL), while confirming that no deal between the two boards had yet been struck confirming Indian players’ participation.

The financially struggling Sri Lankan cricket board does not intend on offering a salary increase to its players when new contracts are offered shortly.

Former Sri Lankan captain Sanath Jayasuriya is currently in Canada for a Twenty20 match to be played today at Toronto’s Rogers Centre between an Asian XI team and a World XI team.

Sri Lanka will host a Twenty20 tournament in August in an attempt to emulate the success of the highly popular Indian Premier League (IPL), the island’s cricket authorities announced on Thursday.

Arjuna Ranatunga had earlier warned that the IPL will help produce “butchers” in India instead of orthodox cricketers. But Kumar Sangakkara felt that it’s not the tournament or the format that will eventually determine the techniques of players.
